Teens Only Ask a Question Parents Resources

I have been having sex lately, protected, and this is the first time my period has been off a week. I am not pregnant, but should this be something to worry me?

Dear Starry,

If you have been worrying about the possibility of being pregnant, then you may have caused your period to be late. When a female is under more than usual stress or worry, it can throw off her period/menstrual cycle.

However, you did not mention what type of contraception you were using. As long as your contraceptive method is reliable, then your worry/stress is probably the most likely culprit. If you still don't have your period in two weeks, take a pregnancy test. Often times, once you finally believe that you're not pregnant, your cycle kicks in and you have your period.
