Do you have to break your hymen before you can get pregnant? Because my friend broke hers after she did this with her boyfriend and I was just wondering.

Dear Yvette,

As far as the hymen, well, sometimes intercourse (vaginal intercourse) can take place without the hymen breaking completely. Sometimes the hymen might have little holes or stretch, which allows the penis to enter the vagina. So, if unprotected vaginal intercourse (no condom) took place, then a pregnancy can occur (Not to mention the risk of sexually transmitted infections!). So in answer to your question, yes, a pregnancy can occur even if the hymen is not completely broken or has openings that have stretched and allowed the penis to enter into the vagina.
