Teens Only Ask a Question Parents Resources

I was having protected sex with my girlfriend but my condom ripped. It was the first day since her period passed. She is worried about pregnancy, what are the chances that she is and if so what can I do about it?

Dear Daniel,

We would suggest making use of something called Emergency Contraception if this intercourse took place within the past 72 hours. Visit a health clinic in your area.

While it is possible that your girlfriend could become pregnant, based on the information you provided, it is not an ideal time for a pregnancy to occur. If it has been more than 72 hours since the intercourse took place, then in seven-eight weeks, we would suggest taking a pregnancy test if her menstrual period does not appear.
