Teens Only Ask a Question Parents Resources

Hello there, I am 19 and my boyfriend and I have been having sex for about 3 years. I have been on the pill for about 2 years and I am worried about something, but feel embarrassed or that I have no one else to talk to, so I was wondering if you could help me. What about if a person has just had say a loose bowl movement (feces), only half an hour after taking the contraceptive pill. Does this affect it at all? I know that this is most likely to be a stupid question, but my boyfriend and I very cautious and just wanted to ask. Also, when you are on the pill, if you are on the last row of active tablets, are you still fully protected, up until you are actually not actually taking the active tablets? Thank you so much for your help, I feel so lucky to have such a great website to turn to for such private help. Thanks!

Dear RJ,

Unfortunately, someone gave you some incorrect information. If you are using the BC pills as directed, they offer excellent protection against unplanned pregnancy (and of course you know BC pills donít offer any protection against STDs.) Remember that BC pills regulate the hormones in body. The timing of bowel movement will not effect the how well this contraceptive works.

And yes, again, using the BC pills as instructed provides full protection.
